Former Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand is a top candidate for the Bayer Leverkusen job and talks are progressing with the 53-year-old, German media reports said on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag was sacked on Monday by last season's Bundesliga runners-up after only two league games.

Hjulmand coached Denmark from 2020 to 2024 and was previously boss of German side Mainz in 2014-15.

Leverkusen next face Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday.
